What Are Trading Certificates?

Under the principal IMO liability conventions and the Maritime Labour Convention, vessels must carry onboard certificates of financial security — issued by an approved insurer — before entering ports of state parties. These certificates (commonly called "Blue Cards" for the CLC and Bunkers conventions) are a mandatory condition of trade.

Flag state authorities issue the formal certificates to vessels on the basis of a Blue Card provided by the insurer. The Blue Card is Amana Marine's written confirmation to the flag state that valid P&I cover meeting the convention requirements is in place.

Certificate Verification

Every certificate issued by Amana Marine carries a unique certificate number and a QR code. Scanning the QR code or entering the certificate number on our verification portal instantly confirms the authenticity, validity status and vessel details of the certificate.

This enables port state control officers, flag state administrations, charterers and lenders to verify Amana Marine certificates independently, without contacting our office.
